This piece has taken me on a journey as much as I have taken it on one. I began this work in February 2024, during a stay on the South Island. I was fortunate to find three quality second-hand canvases at the Little River Op Shop—a true gem of a shop.​ Using recycled paint from Resene, I primed and prepared the canvases in my signature range of greens while staying with my dear sister Kathy, whose home overlooks a lake and the ocean. The canvases became part of an arts experience at the Aroha Essence Festival in Christchurch. From there, they traveled north with me to the NZ Spirit Festival in Kaipara Harbour, where I completed the work in March. The piece was exhibited in a professional gallery, offered and coordinated by Heidi Holland at NZ Spirit North. It found its new home on March 8, 2024, in Puhoi, where it is cherished not just for its monetary value, but for the spiritual journey and healing energy it embodies. While developing this piece in the South Island, a local man shared with me the legend of a white eel that cleanses and clears the waterways along the west coast. I feel that some of this story has woven itself into the final artwork, adding another layer of depth and meaning to what I consider a true heART work.
